What owners report

Drawn from 23 owners' accounts of the Forest River Wildwood, mostly 2019–2026 units. It covers the whole Forest River Wildwood line, not only this floorplan. Nobody here has camped in it; this is what people who bought one say.

On a scale, the tongue of a 2022 FSX 178BHSK read 585 lb nearly empty and without a battery, then 681 lb loaded for a trip, against a listed 430 lb. Other FSX owners describe the same nose-heavy stance, especially on the 179DBK, where the Murphy bed frame sits up front. Budget for that before matching one of the small single-axle models to a midsize SUV.

The complaints about build are consistent and mostly small: thin particle board, a plastic split kitchen sink that owners replace, dinette supports that sag, fasteners that missed the stud, loose plumbing fittings from the factory. Owners who keep up with sealant and fix things themselves report years of use. Two 2025 buyers had a rougher start, with roof leaks within days or months; one says the dealer patched rather than repaired it and is pursuing a buyback.

The floorplans get the praise. Families with young children keep the 179DBK and 178BHSK for four or five seasons, and owners of the 29View and 28View bought them for the windows.

What owners like

  • +Families keep the FSX 179DBK and 178BHSK for four or five seasons with young children, and 179DBK owners cite the wide bunks and the larger fridge with a separate freezer.
  • +Smaller FSX and X-Lite models tow without drama behind half-ton trucks and full-size SUVs, for owners with a Silverado 1500, a Sierra 1500 and a Navigator L.
  • +Owners of the 29View and 28View like them for the wall of windows, and one 29View owner uses the VersaSlide space as an office.
  • +Owners who maintain seals and do small repairs themselves describe a 2019 FSX and a 2020 X-Lite as trouble-free in the big systems.

Common complaints

  • −The small FSX models carry a lot of weight on the tongue: a 178BHSK measured 681 lb loaded against a listed 430, and 179DBK owners say the Murphy bed frame makes the trailer front-heavy.
  • −The plastic split kitchen sink is tiny and flimsy, and owners replace it with a stainless one; one found it cracked after winter.
  • −Interior build is cheap in places: fasteners missing studs, sporadic insulation, thin dinette supports that sag over a weekend, and peeling wallpaper.
  • −Some 2025 units leaked through the roof within days or months of delivery; one owner says the dealer patched rather than repaired it.
  • −Plumbing fittings arrive loose or fail early, from sink and toilet connections to faucets and a fresh tank drain valve.
  • −Roof air conditioning struggles in summer heat on the larger models: a 2019 27REI was unbearable inside even in Minnesota with one unit, and a full-timer found the main unit on a 2022 310BHI could not keep up.

Questions owners ask

Can a midsize SUV tow the small single-axle FSX models?+

One owner who weighed a 178BHSK measured a loaded tongue weight high enough that they think it needs a half-ton, and a 177BH owner towing with a Subaru Ascent felt sway on the freeway. A Telluride owner managed with a weight-distribution hitch but found it bouncy, then moved to a larger SUV that towed much better.
