The difference that matters

Two Sols built the same way, with welded aluminum cage frames, wood-free fiberglass and Azdel walls, panoramic laminated windshields, 15 in ground clearance and a 4,800 lb GVWR. Size and sleeping decide it. The Horizon is 19 ft and sleeps four, at 3,500 lb dry with a 550 lb hitch. The Dawn is 17 ft and sleeps two, at 3,300 lb with a 490 lb hitch and slightly more cargo capacity, 1,500 lb against 1,300.

The Dawn's party trick is its powered FlexKing dinette, which turns into two twins or an 81 by 83 in king, plus a FlexOffice workspace under the front windshield. The Horizon comes with a 15K BTU A/C, a 16K BTU furnace, an 8 cu ft 12 V fridge, a 10 ft power awning and a wet bath with a porcelain foot-flush toilet. Solar is optional on each.

The Dawn is around $45,000 and the Horizon around $49,000.
