The difference that matters

Pop-up truck campers both, but they fit different trucks. The SS-550 fits half-ton pickups with beds from 5.5 to 8 ft. The Grandby is Four Wheel Campers' largest slide-in, built for full-size trucks with an 8 ft bed. The Grandby is lighter at 1,300 lb dry against 1,611 lb and lower closed, 5 ft against 6 ft, which helps in wind and under low branches.

The Palomino ships ready to camp: an electric roof lift with remote, 200 W of solar, a 100 Ah lithium battery, a 20,000 BTU furnace and a 3.3 cu ft 12 V fridge. It sleeps three. The Grandby can be bought as a base shell or a full camper with front-dinette or roll-over-couch layouts, and the furnace, water heater, solar and lithium are options. It has a welded aluminum frame and one-piece aluminum roof, 6.5 ft of headroom popped up, 20 gal of fresh water against 15 and sleeps two.

Palomino Backpack SS-550

Four Wheel Campers Grandby
