Airstream Basecamp 20X vs Lance 1475

Airstream · Travel Trailer

The difference that matters

Weight and cargo favor the Lance 1475 by a wide margin. It weighs 2,905 lb dry with a 315 lb hitch and a 1,519 lb cargo rating. The Basecamp 20X starts at 3,500 lb with a 535 lb hitch and 800 lb of cargo capacity, so a small SUV that handles the Lance may struggle with a loaded Basecamp.

The interiors aim at different people. The Lance is a couples plan with no dinette: two lounge chairs and a large dry bath, with a sofa-bed slide available as an option. The Basecamp sleeps four and carries the Airstream adventure kit, a 19,000 BTU ducted furnace, a heat-pump air conditioner and a sealed, heated underbelly. Solar and its lithium pack are optional extras on the Basecamp.

Tank capacity is close, 26 gal each on the Lance against 23 fresh, 28 gray and 21 black on the Airstream.

Airstream Basecamp 20X: A family of up to four that wants a rugged, compact Airstream shell and a midsize truck to pull it
Lance 1475: Towing with a small SUV, a couple who want a roomy dry bath and plenty of cargo allowance.
