What owners report
Drawn from 22 owners' accounts of the Keystone Hideout, mostly 2018–2025 units. It covers the whole Keystone Hideout line, not only this floorplan. Nobody here has camped in it; this is what people who bought one say.
Roofs are where Hideout ownership goes wrong. Owners of 2022 units describe a leak over the bed in the first storm, a 27RLSWE that spent more than six months in the shop over roof leaks the dealer failed to fix the first time, and a roof failure an insurance adjuster called a factory defect that cost about $12,000 after Keystone declined the structural warranty. A 2020 owner was offered half the trade-in value once the dealer saw the roof.
Owners of the small bunk and rear-bath models, the 175BH, 178LHS and 179RB, sound content. They call them solid for the money and report seasons without trouble, and one 179RB owner says the toilet valve, water pump and water heater they broke were cheap and easy to replace themselves. A Lightning owner reports 0.7 to 1.3 miles per kWh towing a 175BH. One 2024 181BH buyer found the solar, heat ducts, lithium battery and front stabilizer jacks that 2023 units carried had been dropped.
Finish work is the steady complaint even from happy owners: sloppy caulking, cheap electronics and fixtures that get replaced in the first year.
What owners like
- +Owners of the smaller 2018 to 2025 floorplans call them solid budget trailers and report one to three years with few or no problems.
- +Owners of the larger single-slide and rear-bath models find them roomy, one likening theirs to a one-bedroom apartment, and a 6-foot-5 owner fits in the shower.
Common complaints
- −Roof leaks on 2019 to 2022 units are the costliest problem, with months-long dealer repairs, a $12,000 factory defect Keystone would not cover and a dealer halving a trade-in over roof damage.
- −Finish work is rough, with owners redoing caulking and sealant, replacing plumbing and fixtures and calling the electronics cheap.
- −Air conditioners struggle: one 2020 unit could barely hold 81 degrees running nonstop, a 2022 owner is on a second unit, and a 2018 owner's AC is freezing up.
- −Awnings have suddenly dropped fully open and refused to retract.
- −Owners of older 24 to 33-foot units towed with half-tons describe being pushed around by wind and the truck straining at highway speed.
