Jayco Pinnacle 38SSWS

Off-grid power gets more attention on the Pinnacle than on Jayco's Eagle: the Overlander II solar package with an inverter is standard, and the battery bay has room for several extra batteries. A residential refrigerator, king bed, six-point hydraulic leveling and Climate Shield cold-weather protection round it out. It succeeds the 36SSWS.

What owners report

Drawn from 7 owners' accounts of the Jayco Pinnacle, mostly 2020–2025 units. It covers the whole Jayco Pinnacle line, not only this floorplan. Nobody here has camped in it; this is what people who bought one say.

Experiences with the 2020–2024 fifth wheels run from zero issues to atrocious. An owner whose Pinnacle was built in February 2020 has found no workmanship or quality problems and suspects they just missed the Covid-era slump, and a 2024 RLTS owner is very happy, crediting a regional dealer that caught most issues during pre-delivery inspection. A full-timer in a 2022 38FLGS calls the build quality atrocious: one air conditioner replaced twice and water leaks that have damaged some of the wood.

Smaller assembly misses come up too. A 2020 owner is tightening water lines and sealing a leak by the bath fan, and the buyer of a new 43-foot mid-bunk found the tank sensors reading wrong at delivery, apparently installed upside down, and decided it was not worth having the underbelly opened under warranty. That owner bought it for the full-time features: three ACs, double-pane windows and the climate package. A 2020 full-timer has watched a small stress crack near the front cap grow slowly while towing, without other frame-flex signs.

Older units have held up for long-term living: one couple has lived in a 2016 38FLSA for 11 years and says most of it has held up apart from Lippert components.

What owners like

  • +Some owners of 2020 and 2024 units report few or no issues.
  • +Older units have held up to years of full-time living, including 11 years in a 2016 and 558 days in a 2017.

Common complaints

  • −Water leaks and loose water lines turn up on 2020–2022 units.
  • −Some units left the factory with assembly faults, from tank sensors that read wrong to an air conditioner replaced twice.
