What owners report
Drawn from 9 owners' accounts of the Airstream Globetrotter, mostly 2019–2025 units. It covers the whole Airstream Globetrotter line, not only this floorplan. Nobody here has camped in it; this is what people who bought one say.
On the stock AGM batteries the fridge is the limit off grid. A 2022 27-foot owner found the refrigerator stopped running after about 20 hours dry camping with factory solar in partial shade, and a 2021 23FB owner found the fridge alone drained the batteries overnight before converting to 400 Ah of lithium. On 2021–2023 units the factory solar gear is lithium-capable, so the swap is mostly a controller setting. Finding that controller on a 2023 27FBQ meant removing the curbside nightstand, after the dealer and Airstream support both pointed to the wrong place.
The 12-volt system has some odd faults: a 2019 fridge that turns itself back on unless the batteries are disconnected, a 2023 whose 12-volt side stopped drawing from charged batteries for a while, and a cabinet light on a 2025 that will not switch off. Owners otherwise report few problems; one 27FBT owner's only issue has been a loose clamp, including trips in 106°F heat.
Owners tow the 27FB with an F-150 2.7 EcoBoost and an Expedition Max with the tow package. One F-350 owner scaled the rig with and without a weight-distribution hitch and found it moved only about 120 lb back to the steer axle.
What owners like
- +Owners report few problems in use: a 27FBT whose only fault was a loose clamp, even in 106°F heat, and 2019 and 2020 units showing none of the floor trouble buyers worry about.
- +The 27-foot models tow comfortably behind a half-ton and a large SUV, including an F-150 2.7 EcoBoost from San Diego to Houston and an Expedition Max with the max tow package.
- +Factory solar hardware on 2021–2023 units is already lithium-capable, so owners upgrading batteries change a setting rather than the charger.
Common complaints
- −The stock AGM batteries cannot carry the refrigerator through a night or a full day dry camping.
- −Key components are hard to reach: the converter on a 2021 27-foot could not be found behind the closet or bed, and the solar controller on a 2023 sits under the nightstand.
