Palomino Backpack HS-8801 vs Lance 855S

Palomino · Truck Camper

The difference that matters

Two 18 ft hard-side truck campers that each sleep four, separated by a slide. The Lance 855S has a facing-dinette slide-out on a wireless remote and weighs 2,857 lb dry. The Palomino HS-8801 has no slide and weighs 2,575 lb, 282 lb lighter, and it fits three-quarter-ton trucks with 6.5 to 8 ft beds.

Tankage is a clear gap. The Lance holds 30 gal fresh, 20 gray and 25 black, while the Palomino holds 21, 5 and 6.5. For anyone camping several days without a dump station, the Lance's waste capacity matters most. It also has Truma VarioHeat and AquaGo, a dual battery compartment and generator-ready wiring, with the four-season package.

The Palomino answers with 200 W of solar, a 100 Ah lithium battery, an 11 cu ft 12 V fridge against the Lance's 5, electric jacks, an outside shower and a Line-X front cap. It is the lower camper at 8.3 ft against 8.8.

Palomino Backpack HS-8801: Three-quarter-ton owners on weekend trips who want solar, lithium and a big fridge in a lighter camper.
Lance 855S: Short-bed owners who want a slide-out dinette and enough tank capacity for longer stays off hookups.
