The difference that matters

Truck weight separates these short-bed truck campers. The Lance 650 weighs 1,813 lb dry, light enough for a wider range of pickups. The Northern Lite 8-11EX LE weighs 3,100 lb, nearly 1,300 lb more, which narrows the trucks that can carry it.

The Northern Lite uses that weight for equipment. Its standard list includes 600 W of solar across three panels, air conditioning, a Truma Combi Eco Plus, a Heki skylight, power side and rear awnings, a 6.3 cu ft fridge and a three-burner stove with an oven. Its two-piece molded fiberglass shell sleeps four, and tanks hold 33, 24 and 13 gal.

The Lance is aluminum-framed with block-foam insulation, a Truma Combi, electric jacks and a marine toilet, and it sleeps three. Air conditioning and solar are options. Its black tank is larger at 16 gal against 13, and both campers are four-season rated.
